The blower door test value decreased 100% after the very first day, after John's crew sealed the floors of our large attics, and sealed a small channel under the slab that allowed cold winter air to chill tile floors throughout the kitchen/DR. A very drafty house was converted to a far more comfortable house. The final number was about 30% of the initial value. A rather inefficient hybrid whole house fan/attic fan was converted to an efficient and weather-proof whole house exhaust fan for summer use. While we will not know how effective the insulation and all the other improvements will protect us from extreme heat and cold, from everything we have seen, we are (almost) looking forward to another cold winter to test the insulation.

John is the boss, not a salesperson. I had interviewed several other building scientists and insulation experts and had no trouble choosing John. He knows his business, he knows how to explain what he wants to do and why, and he worked with me, not against me, to complete the job. He made two proposals, and we ended up with a hybrid work scope.

Very professional, organized, hard-working. They checked the blower door data after every major portion of the work, and exceeded their targeted reduction in CFM 50 by approximately 2-fold. They had to adjust a few recessed lights that were a little askew after sealing and insulating a small attic, and they came in part of an extra day and fixed everything to my satisfaction.

I was looking for a local building science specialist to examine my very large, leaky and complex house, recommend and install ecologically sound insulation. John was not the cheapest, but he noticed a number of things about the house that others missed, and he was clearly very capable and very willing to explain my options in great detail. I had a lot of confidence in his company, and I am very pleased with the results.

Fabricated with silverglo rigid foam board with an air sealing gasket fixed along the base to prevent leakage, the cover allows stairs to neatly fold up into the insulated cavity.

Winter Worries - Cold Feet Edition in Gardiner, NY

When Mr. K called us he was concerned about his freezing cold floors that he has been experiencing for a while especially in the cold winter months. We sent out our home comfort specialist to pin point the origin of his discomfort and provided him a solution.

Our expert installers got to work quickly by encapsulating and insulating the crawlspace under his home, the cold foot causing culprit! First our team laid down the drainage mat which is key to ensuring any moisture or water will be mitigated out of the space through the channels in the drainage mat. Next, we laid down our clean space vapor barrier. This is a powerful and effective duo for a crawlspace encapsulation. Next we insulated with spray foam on all exterior walls of the space from the vapor barrier to the top of the walls in the space. There was also a section in the basement that needed some upgraded insulation for maximum energy efficiency and comfort on the livable space above. Our installers put up rigid Foamax board on all exterior walls.
