Customer Xendara came to us with some concerns of cold floors, some drafty spots throughout the home.  Upon inspection of her home, we were hit with a very ineresting challenge; all of the rim joists were sealed over by the previous owner with bricks?

Knowing that we needed to get these rim joists sealed up the proper way, we were able to use 2 Part Spray Foam that would expand in between the bricks to get the desired results, and not cause a bigger headache for Xendara.  She could immediately tell the difference in her toes while cooking in the ktichen.

Here at Global Dwelling, we work closely with NYSERDA and the Empower program to provide critical updates to those customers homes that need a little helping hand.

This was such the case with customer Reyes in Guilderland.  We were all set to go to her home and help with moisture issues in her basement, cold floors on the first level and to just make the area seem a little less cluttered.

However, sometimes life struggles get in the way, and the work was delayed multiple times.  Mrs. Reyes was all but ready to give up and fold up shop on the whole project, but we couldn't let that happen.  Our job is to help the customer, no matter what it takes.

We hung in there with her and she hung in there with us.  We were able to complete the project last week with phenomenal results.  We can;t wait to hear from Mrs. Reyes the changes she feels in the home once the cooler weather returns.

Mr. Isallari is a EMPOWER customer who came to us about having cold floors during the winter time. He called the right place because we were able to help him! We installed Zypfoam along the boards to hold the wall in place to help with keeping the floors warm. We also insulated the attic floors with trusoft cellulose and along with this we were able to seal the the chimeny chase to help with the heat during the winter.

How Does HeatSmart Capital Region Work?

Through community events, open houses, and workshops, HeatSmart Capital Region provides information about sustainable heating and cooling systems, and provides access to vetted and trusted installers. HeatSmart participants learn how they can improve the efficiency and comfort of their homes and buildings, and receive a free site visit and evaluation to determine which clean heating and cooling technologies are best suited for their home or business. In select communities, targeted campaigns may provide additional savings on installation costs by signing up multiple homes in a short period of time. There may also be grants available for low and moderate-income households to help defray the up-front costs of switching to heat pump technology.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

Residents who live within the Albany, Schenectady, Saratoga, Rensselaer, Warren, Washington, Columbia, and Greene Counties are eligible to participate in HeatSmart Capital Region.

Before our team of highly trained insulation experts arrived, Mrs. S was suffering from skyrocketing energy bills for her home. Mrs. S came to us here at Global Dwelling knowing that we could handle the problem and immediately find a solution. When we completed her home comfort evaluation, our home comfort specialist discovered that the existing insulation that was in her attic was inefficient and was the cause for her high costing energy bills. When this was discovered we went straight away to fix this major issue! 

First, our team of experts started with the removal of the fiberglass insulation that was no longer doing anything for Mrs. S and her attic. Then, our team of experts airsealed the space with ZypFoam. Next, our experts insulated the area with our fluffy and warm "Blown-in" Cellulose. During this evaluation, our home comfort specialists found that Mr. C was suffering from freezing floors because both his basement and crawlspace were not properly insulated. The combination of both of the areas not having proper insulation allowed for leaky and unwanted cold air to make its way into the spaces and create an imbalance in temperature, affecting the floors above. 

We sent our team of insulation experts right away to the home to start their magic! Our team first started by removing any leftover fiberglass insulation that was in the crawlspace ceiling and disposing of it. Once the old insulation was removed, our team installed Foamax boards in the rim joists which were then air-sealed with ZypFoam. After, our experts then installed our Total Clean Space Encapsulation System in order to control the moisture problem in the area. The system is completed with our experts first laying down a drainage matt, which is then secured to a vapor barrier with vapor barrier tape, making this system a way for moisture mitigation control! Once we installed the Total Clean Space Encapsulation System, our experts then went into the basement area to properly insulate! Our team of insulation contractors first insulated the rim joists with Foamax boards which were then air-sealed. The basement walls were then insulated with our fabulous Basement-2-Beautiful insulation panels which will create a blanket-like barrier from allowing the outside to affect the temperature of the basement. So these floors will no longer become freezing for the homeowners! 

When Mr. B first called us here at Global Dwelling, he was concerned about the performance of his home. So we sent one of our highly trained, home comfort specialists to his home to provide the best possible solution to improve the overall performance! Our home comfort specialist found that Mr. B needed the insulation method in his attic upgraded in order to improve the energy efficiency of his home. 

Our insulation experts were quick to arrive at his home and start our insulation method upgrade! Our team of insulation contractors first started by removing the old insulation method that was in the attic space. Once removed, our experts then disposed of all of the insulation and debris that was also in the space. Once the attic was cleared, our experts were then able to properly air-seal the attic with ZypFoam. When our experts complete air-sealing in the attic space, they use ZypFoam to thoroughly ensure that all of the once accessible air penetrations in the space are no longer allowing leaky or unwanted air. Once the attic air-sealing was completed, our insulation experts then were ready to upgrade the attic space with our premier method of insulation, blown-in cellulose! Our experts blew in 18 inches of cellulose which then settled to 16 inches and will insulate the home to an R-value of 60!

This home was extremely uncomfortable for these homeowners during both the hot summer months and the cold winter season. Mr. F explained that his home never kept his most desired temperature and would cost him a fortune in both heating and cooling. We sent one of our home comfort specialist to the home to thoroughly evaluate the home and provide the best possible solution. Our home comfort specialist found that the attic was poorly insulated with old insulation that was no longer providing any R-value for the home. 

We sent our team of insulation experts to the home to upgrade the attic insulation and help restore peace of mind for the homeowners! Our team first began by removing and disposing of all of the insulation and had the space clear for the attic air-sealing. The air-sealing was then completed by using ZypFoam which thoroughly encloses air penetrations so leaky or unwanted air will longer affect the space. Once the air-sealing was complete, our team was then ready to upgrade this space with our premier method of insulation, blown-in cellulose! Our experts upgraded the R-value of the home to 60!

We were more than happy to come out to Mrs. A's home in Albany, NY, and help reduce the ice damming she was experiencing every cold winter season. First, we sent one of our highly trained and experienced home comfort specialists to her home and provide her with the best possible solution in fixing her problem. Our specialist found that Mrs. C needed her attic space properly insulated, in order to reduce the amount of energy leaving the home and prevent ice from forming. 

Our team of experts was quick to arrive at the home and start the process of upgrading her attic insulation! Our experts first began by installing SilverGlo boards onto the attic floor which were then air-sealed with ZypFoam to ensure that air was no longer able to escape and affect the overall temperature of the space. Our team then air-sealed the eves in the attic space with ZypFoam in order to thoroughly ensure that the air penetrations that were allowing leaky and unwanted air were sealed off. Once the eves and the SilverGlo were installed, our team then secured plywood boards on top of the SilverGlo in order to create a platform for Mrs. C to use as storage space.  

When our expert team of insulators arrived at Mrs. O's home, our goal was to fix her cold drafty floors and restore her peace of mind; and we did exactly that! 

When our home comfort specialist evaluated her home, they found that her problem of cold drafty floors was being caused by her crawlspace being poorly insulated with fiberglass insulation in the rim joists and no air-sealing. The combination of both of these allowed cold unwanted and leaky air to penetrate the space and affect the overall temperature. The first thing our insulation experts did when they arrived was to remove and dispose of any insulation that was left in the crawlspace ceiling. Our team then insulated the rim joists in the space with SilverGlo which were air-sealed with ZypFoam. Lastly, our experts insulated the exposed exterior walls with SilverGlo so the space would no longer affect the temperatures of the floors above. Our experts air-sealed the SilverGlo boards so no leaky or unwanted air would be able to access the space. 

The combination of insulating the exposed exterior walls and rim joists will minimize the draftiness of the floors above and restore peace of mind for Mrs. O during this cold season!

During the evaluation of the home, our home comfort specialist, Lukas Segota found that the attic was poorly insulated with old batt fiberglass insulation and needed to be properly air-sealed. We sent our team of expert attic insulation contractors to the home and upgrade the attic with our premier method of insulation! 

When our team arrived at the home, they first removed and disposed of all of the old nasty batt fiberglass that was previously used to insulate the home. Once the attic was clear of any debris or leftover insulation, our experts were ready to air-seal the attic! Our team air-sealed the attic by using ZypFoam, which is great because once applied, it expands so any accessible air penetrations in the attic are no more! By air-sealing the attic, our team has diminished the chances of leaky or unwanted air getting into the attic and affecting the overall temperature. Lastly, our experts upgraded the attic by insulating the space with our premier method, blown-in cellulose! Our team blew in up to 18 inches of cellulose which will settle to 16 inches and provide an R-value of 60. Our home comfort specialist gave this home owner a great solution to his basement to prevent the cold floors and a solution for his attic to reduce energy costs overall while achieving maximum comfort in his home! Soon after Mr. S chose us to do his project our install team got to work!

When our expert installers arrived, they began by insulating the rim joists with our Silver Glo board foam insulation material. They air sealed in a picture frame format around the Silver Glo boards for maximum results and no air leaks. This will prevent freezing cold floors above the basement level of his home. Next, our crew dense packed between the attic and ceiling with our TruSoft Cellulose material. The next part of the project is the attic. The attic had old fiber glass insulation that was removed first. Then, our expert installers air sealed all top plates and areas with air penetrations with Zyp foam. After, they installed baffles on the slope of the roof for proper air flow throughout the attic space. Lastly, they blew in our efficient and natural material, TruSoft Cellulose. 

Mr. S will now have a more comfortable, cost and energy efficient home!
