Insulation Services Case Studies: Fixing Mrs. H's Uncomfortable Home in Bloomville, NY

Challenge

Mrs. H was sick and tired of feeling uncomfortable in her own home. She was suffering from freezing cold floors and wanted to know how she could best improve the overall performance of her home! 

Solution

We sent one of our highly trained home comfort specialist to provide a very thorough evaluation of the home in order to find out what the best possible plan was! Our specialist went down into the crawlspace and found that the exposed exterior walls had no insulation method against the outside air and that the crawlspace floors were being exposed to the outside elements. The combination of both of these led to the crawlspace becoming the reason why the floors above were becoming freezing cold. Our experts were quick to arrive and help fix this uncomfortable home! 

Our experts first started by removing and disposing of all of the old batt fiberglass insulation that was previously used to insulate the area. Our team then insulated the exposed exterior walls with Foamax boards which were also air-sealed with ZypFoam to ensure that all easily accessible air penetrations were thoroughly sealed. Our experts then encapsulated the crawlspace with our GoldSeal encapsulation system to protect against the outside elements. The first step in encapsulating the space was to lay down a drainage matt that was sealed with vapor barrier tape. The second and final step was to lay down the vapor barrier with GoldSeal on top of the matt and secure them together with vapor barrier tape. 

The combination of both the insulated exposed exterior walls and encapsulated crawlspace floor ensure that the space will no longer become the reason the floors above are freezing cold!
